In this tutorial I will attempt to teach some tricks of the trade for cropping and also selecting an area to paste certain parts of an image into. I have attempted to make this easy even for the beginner.

I would like to suggest that before you begin, make a folder to store the various images in until you are completely finished with the tutorial as it is very lenghty and you may want to do it at different intervals and not all at once. For that purpose I am dividing this tutorial into 3 Parts.

SPLIT PICTURE x3 FRAMED

PART 1

Cropping the Image to Make 3 Images

1. Open your image in PSP, Shift d to make a duplicate, Close the original.
Here is the image I started with.

2. Resize your image to a width of 365px. Make sure the Maintain aspect ratio of: box is checked and the height will automatically be set for you.

NOTE: Your width troughout this tutorial should always be the same as mine, but your height may be different. Every where you see height 240 on my screenshots, yours should be the height of your image.

3. We will begin with the Left picture.
Select your Crop Tool to draw out the area to be cropped.
Using the number coordinates at the bottom of your screen, (see below screenshot)

NOTE: Once again where mine says 240 yours should be the height of your image.,
The last set of numbers, where mine is {0.292}, is a ratio of some sort, Yours may read different but just ignore it.

Begin at (0, 0) and draw out to (70, your height) = (70 x your height)
Double click inside of it to crop it. You will now have this.

This will be your Left picture. Edit/Copy, Edit/Paste/As New Image, File/Save Copy As
Name it LeftPic.jpg and save it in your folder. Minimize it for now.

4. Go back to your original now cropped Image and Edit/Undo Perform Crop. You should now have your full size original image back.

5. We will now crop for the Right picture. Select your crop tool again and use the number coordinates in the screen shot below remembering once again where mine says 240 yours will be different and also the last set of numbers.

Begin at (295, 0) and draw out to (365, your height) = (70 x your height)
Double click inside of it to crop it. You will now have this.

This will be your Right picture. Edit/Copy, Edit/Paste/As New Image, File/Save Copy As
Name it RightPic.jpg and save it in your folder. Minimize it for now.

6. Go back to your original now cropped Image and Edit/Undo Perform Crop. You should now have your full size original image back.

7. Now you will crop for your middle picture.Select your crop tool and use the coordintes below.

Begin at (70, 0) and draw out to (295, your height) = (225 x your height)
Double click inside of it to crop it. You will now have this.

This will be your Middle picture. Edit/Copy, Edit/Paste/As New Image, File/Save Copy As
Name it MiddlePic.jpg and save it in your folder. Minimize it for now.

Making sure that you now have your 3 images named and saved to a folder ,You can now close the original full size copy, no need to save it.

You may now want to take a break or even close out your PSP and come back later before going on to PART 2.
