~MY FIRST TUTORIAL~
[And probably my last...ha ha ho ho he he]

THE PICTURE

Here is the graphic I used

Open the graphic in PSP

Press shift D to make a duplicate. Close the original graphic.

Click..File/Save as/..name it and save it as a .psp

Remember to save often so you won't lose what you have done.

Go to.. colors/ increase color depth/16million colors

Go to.. Layers/promote to layer and name it picture.

This graphic has a small border around it so we want to crop it to remove it and at the same time remove some of the right edge.

Click on your crop tool and begin at the top left corner just inside the border, draw a box out to the right and down to just above the bottom border. Then double click inside of the picture to crop it.

At this point you can add a new raster layer just so you can see what you are doing. Name it temp. bkg. You will delete it before the final save. Flood fill it with white. Click...Layers/arrange/send to bottom. This will put the background underneath and the picture on top.

Choose your eraser and set opacity and density to 100 and size to around 35. Start erasing the right side of the picture, reduucing the size of the eraser as you get into the smaller areas. I erased everything to the right beginning at the point of the bottom leaf, following the edges of the leaves and flowers, to the top. When you get close to the top turn on your grid and try to get the top and bottom erased to the same point so when the pattern repeats it will match up. Turn off grid.

On your layers pallet, hightlight your picture layer to make sure it is the active layer.

Now we are going to add a drop shadow
Go to.. effects/3D effects/dropshadow
Set the settings and color to suit your fancy.
I did a second dropshadow using the same settings except i changed the vertical and horizontal offsets to minus to give it the raised shadow on top.

Here is mine

Now on your layers pallet, highlight the temp.bkg. layer and delete it.
Now your gray and white sguares should be showing up on the right of your flowers.
I would show you mine here but since it is a .psp it wont show up here.

The last step for the picture image is to resize it. I don't like for my side border to be over 300 pixels wide. To resize, Go To..Image/resize.. Choose.. pixel resize: resize type: in drop down menu choose smart size; check resize all layers and maintain aspect ratio of: (do not set the nubers for aspect ratio they will set themselves) Now go up to width and set to 300 (or your preference). The height and aspect numbers will set automatically. Click ..OK

Now you will need to find out the height of your final picture so you can make your background the same height. Do this by clicking on ..Image/image information..in the popup you will see the dimensions,
# x # pixels..remember the second number it is your height.

Click..SAVE. and minimize it till later or close it but remember where you save it to.

THE BACKGROUND

Click.. File/New..in the popup put...
Width.. 1024, Height.. (the same height of your picture ), Transparent , 16.7million colors, choose pixels and pixels inch click OK.

This will be layer 1 rename it background.

On your colors Pallet
STYLES> Set your foreground and background to a paintbrush and the colors of your choice.
(I stole a color from my picture for the foreground and chose white for my background).
TEXTURES> Set your foreground to Rosetile 1, Set the background to the paintbrush

On your Tool Options select ...Flood fill
Now on your image..Right click to fill with the background color; then left click to fill with the colored texture.

EXAMPLE of mine

Save as...name it and save it as a .psp

PLACING THE PICTURE ON THE BACKGROUND

Open your picture back up and click...edit/copy

Go back to your background and click..edit/paste/as new selection
Move the picture over to the left edge and line it up carefully all around including the top and bottom.
(You may have to zoom in to see what you are doing)

Now go to selections and select none to remove the marching ants.

Now you want to make it a seamless tile so go to...Effects/Plug-in Filters/FM Tile Tools/Seamless Tile
Check Vertical.. and set your border width and stretch control to 0.100 (it is a little hard to get it set exactly so get as close to possible to these numbers as you can) Click..Apply

SAVE COPY AS....name it and save as a .gif file
